Today brought lovely spring weather for our work party. Our small team set about clearing the last of the piles of demolition rubble from the ‘up’ platform. Over the years we have shifted tons of rubble from the station site by hand, so we are glad this task is almost over. We were also pleased that lots of visitors stopped by for a chat and a cup of tea. One visitor solved a bit of a puzzle for us. One of the artefacts we had earlier discovered at the station was a china cup marked ‘BTC CS’ on the bottom. We thought it might be railway-related, and now know these letters stand for ‘British Transport Commission Catering Services’. Mystery solved! It is incredible that this china cup survived intact buried under piles of debris for well over 50 years.
