On Saturday 7th January, 14 volunteers turned out for a work party to clear overgrowth from alongside the approach to the North Dorset Trailway at Spetisbury station. Dorset County Council wish to improve the access ramp from the lane leading to South Farm for the benefit of users with pushchairs, wheelchairs and mobility scooters, but initial ground clearance needed to be undertaken first. The hard working volunteers toiled all day and were rewarded with hot drinks and refreshments organised by the Station Project team, with supplies generously donated by local residents and Tesco at Blandford. Graham Stanley and his team of Dorset County Council rangers now have to remove some larger trees, then a further work party will be called in due course for final ground clearance before the diggers move in to improve the angle of the ramp. Well done folks!
Edit – on Sunday 19th February the team organised a final push to complete the work started in January. The over ground work is now complete and awaiting assessment by the contractors for the ground works in March. We look forward to a greatly improved access to the Trailway from the centre of Spetisbury very soon. Thanks to all the willing volunteers who turned out to support these work parties.
