work party 16th November

The main job today was tidying the site in readiness for our Christmas event on Sunday 14th December. This involved cutting the grass and clearing the booking office area for our Christmas display, which we will be putting up at the next work party. Work also continued cutting back the buddleia, to improve the views over the Stour Valley. A favourite feature is the children’s’ log train, but this had rotted to the extent that it had become unsafe. So we completely removed this, although the track remains as it can hopefully be re-used. Most of the old logs now form a bug habitat. A couple of visitors asked if we will be replacing it, and the answer is yes! We already have some good quality logs and a new train will be made next year.

A date for next year’s diary is Sunday 12th July 2026. This will be our summer Railway Extravaganza, which promises to be bigger and better than ever! More details to follow.

work party 2nd November

After the cancellation of our previous work party due to heavy rain, we took advantage of the mainly fine day to get some work done. This included cutting the grass and tending flower beds. We also improved the view over the Stour Valley by cutting back the buddleia. Due to the steepness of the embankment here, and to protect our neighbours’ privacy, we placed a metal fence panel to discourage people from entering this area. The volunteers also enjoyed cakes during their tea break today to celebrate the 165th anniversary of Spetisbury station, which opened on 1st November 1860.

Following an unpleasant incident this morning involving two walkers and their dogs, we urge everyone to be responsible when exercising their animals through the station and to be mindful of other people. And, please clean up after your dogs!! Let’s all help make the Trailway safe and enjoyable for everyone.
